DECEMBER 31-JANUARY 1
“So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son” - John 1:14 NLV
When people of other denominations can teach you something . . .
I will never forget the young choirmaster from St Wulfrum’s Church in Grantham – Cambridge-educated and a very bright spark – preparing an array of singing “talent” for a joint-church choir effort at Christmas some 4 or 5 years ago here in the town.
As he led twenty of us through one of the classic First Advent hymns, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, he paused to speak about some words which always touch him deeply.
“You know”, he said with sincerity, “we often sing these hymns without paying much attention to the deep theology which they contain. For example, do we ever pause and think when we sing that line, ‘Christ on earth has come to dwell, Jesus our Immanuel’? God, in reality, came to live on this earth amongst His creation”?
Think about it next time you sing it. Our God, selflessly gave of His very self for our salvation. Wonder, O heavens! Be astonished, O earth!
May God richly bless you as you take His hand, and in faith step boldly into the year ahead. Pastor John Ferguson

The lyrics of our music to see in the New Year, is the sum total of Christianity, “Loving God, Loving Each Other” - sung by The Gaither Vocal Band.

Housekeeping details for you
The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.
A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional.
