JANUARY 27

‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.’ Hebrews 13:8

We often wait for and miss opportunities to share a word from the Lord with the public because ‘God’ doesn’t seem to be a popular discussion. However I have to smile when I hear people using the language of the bible as everyday language but out of a biblical context.

For example, this past weekend in sport, football to be exact, has been called a weekend of ‘giant killing.’ The oldest football competition in the world, the FA (Football Association) witnessed Manchester City who are the current Premier League Champions, go out of the competition to a club from a lower league, Middlesbrough 0-2. Indeed Chelsea Football Club, who have the most decorated manager in football history in Jose Mourinho, who has managed and won trophies with clubs all over the world, surrendered a 2 goal lead and were beaten by Bradford Football club 2-4. No disrespect to Bradford, but a few of Chelsea’s players individually are worth more than the whole of Bradford’s squad. The headline from the Guardian on Saturday read,

‘Bradford’s defeat of Chelsea: a cup giant-killing to rival the very best’ Guardian, January 24, 2015

There is even a website called 'the giant killers' which surprisingly has nothing to do with a boy called David and his heroic defeat of a bully called Goliath, who was champion of Gad.

Maybe that is a conversation you might want to bring up next time someone mentions football because,

‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.’
