NOVEMBER 3

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”  Hebrews 13:8

I have a single word for today – procrastination. As I get older, I think the days become shorter. I know that in reality time has always and will be the same, but somehow I don’t seem to get as much done in a day than I used to.

Most not all children, but teenagers especially, don’t want to go to bed at a reasonable hour and by the same token neither do they want to rise in the morning. In part because they are tired from the lack of sleep, but mainly because they have nothing so important that they feel the need to rise for. Except of course if they are going on a trip that they have arranged with a friend or it’s a celebration day like Christmas or their birthday. I speak from my own experience.

Time management, like most things, is a skill that first has to be learned then developed until it is fine-tuned. So let me speak about procrastination. The dictionary defines it as,

‘the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time, sometimes to the "last minute" before the deadline.'

When I was a student I have to admit that I was the master of this, always finding something for pressing to do than my studies then panicking and blaming the world for getting in the way when my deadline was imminent. Probably I was the only one... probably not!

I used to say, “I wish I had more time” when in reality we all have the same amount given to us. We cannot earn or buy more; we just have to learn how to manage it better. Perhaps each day we should tithe it? Now there’s a thought!

God is speaking to our hearts today, be bold claim that promise; begin that group, that prayer chain, ask God into your heart NOW. As Benjamin Franklin put it ,

“You may delay, but time will not.”

I pray that today you will make the most of your time, remembering to give God his fair share.

Today's choice of song has a simple but beautiful message. Listen to the words. 'He wants it all' - Forever Jones.

     Housekeeping details for you

The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.

A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
