18 because we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18
Has your mind ever been so busy that you lose track of what you are doing or were about to do? If you’re like me, halfway down the stairs then pausing to try and remember? Stalling and screwing up your face while you try and mentally retrace your steps? Sometimes I actually physically back up to try and recapture my train of thought.
Sometimes that thought just sits outside of what you are doing and you try and grab it into your present tense. Sometimes it takes days or even weeks - then you remember! What a relief! Although usually by that time it is not important anymore as that moment has passed.
If like me you are a struggling Christian, do you sometimes forget why you are here? Like the ‘senior’ moment as it is sometimes called, you get so busy with life and trying to fit all the pieces of this earthly puzzle in, that you forget this isn’t actually your home. Nor is it where we are supposed to store our treasures.
I shared a few weeks ago that I had some challenging news in an email and I was asked to pray because the sender knew that I was a Christian. Well today, I had a reply from the person affected who said, ‘keep having a word with the boss upstairs for me’. She meant keep on praying.
For me it is another reminder that our purpose, my purpose is to serve. Serve others the way Jesus would want us to, and to prepare our hearts and lives for heaven. So the next time you have a mental stall out or ‘senior’ moment think about what your real mission is. And just in case you are not sure, here it is;
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
Today, see if you can take a bolder step towards where God is calling you and me.
This song is for me as much as it is for you. Leon Patillo's song "Go ye therefore and teach all nations". Please click on the picture to listen.

Housekeeping details for you
The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.
A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
