17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”   Luke17:17-19

Yesterday we looked at how the ten lepers responded when they saw Jesus and today we are looking at His response.

Most sermons I have heard focus on the point that only one of the lepers who were healed came back to say thank you. This fact that is not under dispute.  In verse 17 Jesus says;

“… Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?”

I have often thought that there is another whole sermon there in regards to a return of 1 in 10 being a tenth, which is what the Lord requires of us with earnings, and ourselves, in Leviticus 27:32. But the personal application point I want to emphasis is how many times do we say thank you to God, to our families, to those who help us out time and time again?

One of the points that Jesus remarked on was the fact that the only one to return to thank him was the stranger, the ‘non’ Jew. Sometimes a ‘thank you’ from an unexpected source can be the most welcome and rewarding.

Do something unexpected today. Reward someone by remembering to say thank you.

     Housekeeping details for you

     The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.

     A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
