1 I look up to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord. He is the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He won't let your foot slip. He who watches over you won't get tired.
Psalm 121:1-3
How many times do we look up? I don’t literally mean how many times vertically, but rather to take in the view above our natural eye line? I find the more I get accustomed to my surroundings then the less likely I am to do this. However, might I suggest that we may be missing something by failing to do so.
Whilst driving from church I cast my eyes a bit higher than I am used to doing. I noticed a huge cluster of trees shaped like a 70’s style black afro, which was framing a few houses on the horizon. I pointed this out to my wife, to which she remarked ‘God’s natural haircut’. It was a beautiful scence.
When David, in today’s key text, looked up, he didn’t just see what was before his eyes, but he saw the source of what he eyes could see. He saw who he could access his help from.
Are you in need of specific help today? There are numerous occasions, especially in the Old Testament, where saints just cry out ‘hear my prayer’ as in I Kings 8:28
"But please pay attention to my prayer. LORD my God, show me your favor as I make my appeal to you. Listen to my cry for help. Hear the prayer I'm praying to you today."
All we need to do is lift our eyes to the heaven to the one who ‘will not let our foot slip’ and never tires of watching over us.
I challenge you to share this Psalm with someone today.

Housekeeping details for you
The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.
A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day.
